JULY 4, 2008-- Denise LeDuc sends the following report:
A very successful day was had at the Chesterfield Congregational Church with the 3rd annual quilt display. There were a total of 53 quilts on display. Quilters from the two guilds that I belong to Hands Across the Valley Quilters Guild (HAVQG) and Mohawk Trail Quilters Guild (MTQG) had a very good day and walked away with all the prizes......
A very special congratulations to:
1st Place: "On the Way to High Ledges" by Kathy Sargent (a fantastic snippets landscape) $100- and her landscape quilt also won the Chesterfield 4th of July Association Honorable Mention Ribbon
2nd Place: Susan Garfield-Wright, her "Eye of Poseidon" (French Braid) was chosen as the 2nd place winner in the People's Choice. Susan's quilt will be sporting a wonderful rosette ribbon, and Susan will have an extra $50 to spend as she wishes (maybe more fabric???)
3rd Place: "Medallion" by Kathy Sargent a great medallion quilt in blue and rust $25- and also won the Chesterfield Congregational Church Honorable Mention Ribbon.
The other winners in the display were:
Susan Babij received two Honorable Mentions as her quilt entitled "Country Cousins" The Chesterfield Volunteer Fire Department and the SelectBoard both chose Sue's hand appliquéd traditional quilt as their favorite.
"Holly's Wedding Quilt" made by Hands Across the Valley Quilters Guild Members and hand quilted by Jim Carroll won the Honorable Mention Ribbon from the Parade Marshalls.
"Tutti Fruitti" was on display at the church, along with cards promoting the 2009 guild show. There was a bit of interest in the 2009 show and many compliments were heard about the quilt.
Thank you to all who participated in and came to the event, it was nice to see members of both guilds come to Chesterfield for the festivities and the quilt display. And a very special thanks to the volunteers who helped the make this quilt display a success...... the watchful eyes of: Jackie Lawton, Roxanne Cunningham, Sue Babij and Sue Lubanski- and last but not least- my behind the scenes helper--- Becki Stratton....from A Notion to Quilt.
