Hands Across the Valley Quilters Guild


Calendar of Events 2008-2009

All regular meetings are held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 867 North Pleasant Street, Amherst, from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm on the second Sunday of the month (except where noted with an asterisk). Workshops are normally held at another location. Information will be given at workshop sign-up.

Non-member fee is $1.00 per meeting and $5.00 per meeting when there is a guest speaker.

2008

September

Sunday 9/14

Join us for the first meeting of the year. Bring projects you have been working on for show and tell. Catch up on all the quilting news with friends. In-house raffle quilt block project will be announced - we're incorporating our in-house raffle quilt blocks into one of our meetings.

October

Saturday, 10/11

"Green" quilt workshop at South Congregational Church. With gas so expensive, we decided to hold a quilters retreat in town. Bring your own project, lunch will be provided, and sew all day (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

November

Sunday, 11/9

Art quilter, Kim LaPolla, will do a trunk show and lecture showing us her work. Kim is a member of the Art Quilt Alliance, and the Director of the Hudson River Valley Fiber Art Workshops. For more information visit her web site at http://www.crazybydesign.com/ .

December

Sunday, 12/14

To celebrate the Holiday season, join us for our annual Holiday Celebration where we will share a dessert buffet, show and tell, and an optional exchange of quilt related gifts (under $10, please).

January

Sunday, 1/11

Ruth McDowell, now located in Colrain, MA will give a lecture on New Works. Ruth is the author of numerous books including her latest Design Workshop. For more information and to see photos of her work, visit her web site at .

February

Sunday, 2/8

This will be a working meeting where we finish mini-quilts that will be auctioned at the quilt show. We'll also do show and tell, and take care of last minute details for our 12th Quilt Show. Blocks are due for the in-house raffle quilt.

March

Saturday & Sunday, 3/21-22

Hands All Around XII Quilt Show at LeFrak Gymnasium, Amherst College, Rt. 116/South Pleasant Street, Amherst. Includes the Sixth Biennial Old Deerfield Challenge, bag challenge/auction, raffle quilt and mini-quilt auction. 10 am to 4 pm. Admission: Adults $8, Children (6 to 12) $2. There will not be a regular Sunday Guild meeting this month.

April

*Sunday, 4/19

Our program will be about quilt settings. Using quilt blocks submitted for the in-house raffle quilt, members will present discussions about working with blocks on various settings.

May

Saturday, 5/16

Annual Community Projects Workshop weekend at South Congregational Church. Come prepared to help sew blocks, make tops, baste and tie quilts, sew bindings and spend time with fellow quilters. This is a very rewarding workshop and all quilts made are donated to community organizations.

*Sunday, 5/17

Finish projects from Saturday Community Projects Workshop. Bring needles, thread and scissors to help sew bindings, sew on labels and finish quilts. We will do a show and tell of all Community Project quilts made.

June

Sunday, 6/14

Final meeting of the year with our annual potluck luncheon. If you made blocks for the in-house raffle quilts, be sure to come watch the raffle and see if you win a quilt top. We'll also do show and tell.

* Note that April and May meetings have been moved to avoid conflicts with Mother's Day and Easter.

Workshop Policy – To reserve a space in a workshop, a deposit of 50% of the total workshop fee is required. The rest of the fee has to be paid before the workshop. No refunds will be given unless the workshop is cancelled or you find a replacement. It is not the guild’s responsibility to find a replacement for you. Please contact us for additional information.
